The Modern Lovers

Soemthing i knew about but have never listened to. Not unbelievable, but pretty solid.
Love all the classics ("Roadrunner", "OldWorld", "Dignified&Old") as well as some that i hadn't heard like "Hospital". I'll be back!!!

patrick wolf - wind in the wires

bring on the drama!!!
even though there are some interesting elements here i can get past the drama. pluss this guys has pretty much got one melody. Don't like it for the same reason i don't like nick cave or peter murphy. Amazing that some young dude could already be in league with those crabby old bastards! When it swings towards the more rocking and begins to feel more like love and rockets or sisters of mercy my ears perk up a little ( see "tristan"), but overall not my bag.

the books - lost and safe

been looking forward to this one. Different, more direct, maybe a little less delicate
"be good to them always" is great oh superman style politicism and recalls the more rocking side of lemon of pink.
"vogt dig for kloppervok" recycles samples from from lemon of pink challenging the listener to reconsider context etc, blah blah. sadly, as more is revealed of the original source the ambiguity that gives the listener so much room to respond and interact with the song is removed. Maybe i'll feel differently after repeated listenings but for now i'm not stuck with the same sort of wonder. Not to mention i'm not sure i'm really into the music.

later samples remind me more of "fluffly clouds" than the retro world music of previous efforts. not worse just different.
"smells like content" makes more obvious use of filtering and really sounds like a standard downtempo/'experemental' indie pop song.

Musically the same same basic feel is retained. A bit more natural, a bit closer to the source but the same sense of melody and insrtumentation persist. However drumming steps to the front more often and often taking an earthier even tribal(wretch...) form.
True vox are more integrated and there is interaction between the found sources.

montag - alone, not alone

takes me precisely back to dots and loops era stereolab and book lovers era broadcast. Really nice but those are hard records to beat on thier own terms.

out hud - let us never speak of it again

takes me a while to get comfy with the jams but it's some good sounds. the hit the effects pretty hard, which is cool with me, esp. since the souce of the sounds is usual pretty close to a human. I'll be listening to it for a while....
